Yoga for resilience: mastering respiratory anatomy and immune support

The respiratory system and the immune system have a wonderful relationship - one of those that the yogis inherently seemed to understand, and science is just catching up. Learn the importance of the diaphragm to both systems, foundational yet transformative techniques to enhance the effectiveness of these systems, and how both systems affect the rest of the body.

This training also examines the role of stress; on the respiratory system, on immune function and on overall wellbeing. Join us to examine what the evidence says about external stressors, breathing biomechanics and immune support; and how yoga has a pivotal and vital role in supporting overall wellbeing.

Course Objectives:

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding the structure and function of the lungs, airways, and muscles involved in breathing; including how to improve breathing biomechanics

  • Understand the importance of breath in healthful movement, posture and mental state

  • Learn how to conduct a breath analysis, to understand your yogi’s breathing patterns and breath location

  • View the nervous system through the lens of the respiratory system, revisiting and deeply understanding the impact of breathing biomechanics on mental health

  • Explore the studies and data underpinning recommendations for various pranayama techniques

  • Understand the key components of the immune system and lymphatic system and their roles in protecting the body

  • Dive deep into the evidence behind why yoga is such a powerhouse in protecting the immune system

  • Investigate the interconnection between the respiratory system, the immune system and the rest of the body

  • Build confidence being able to explain respiratory anatomy, the immune system and their relationship to your yogis

Holly Mcfee is the owner of Yoga Hero Ltd. Holly has been practicing yoga since 2010, and teaching since 2013. Holly embarked upon her 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training here in Leeds, and after balancing a full time job and teaching yoga for just six months, went full time in to teaching.

In August 2015 Holly opened the Yoga Hero studio in Leeds Dock, and in June 2017 this studio expanded to become one of the largest dedicated yoga spaces in the North of England.

Holly’s experience in opening two busy studios, and years of self-employment, will be shared to help trainees build a thriving yoga business, should you wish to.

Holly is an experienced Ashtanga, Rocket, Vinyasa Flow, Yin and Restorative Yoga teacher, and the diversity across these disciplines combined with her passion for spreading the benefits of yoga, her dedication to make teachers be the best they can be and her ongoing study of philosophy, anatomy and asana, mean that teacher trainees receive a vital combination of learning about the many aspects of yoga practice, philosophy, and teaching.

Aside from teaching and practising yoga, Holly loves to walk her pug, see friends and family, have the odd beer and explore the world.

Holly’s approach to teaching is beautiful – everything is delivered in a non judgemental, accessible and friendly way. Thank you to Holly and Yoga Hero for creating such a fabulous course.
