Respiratory anatomy and biochemistry for yoga teachers

Respiratory anatomy and biochemistry for yoga teachers

In this bitesized training, we explore the anatomy, physiology and biochemistry of breathing, helping you confidently use scientifically informed, therapeutically useful instructions for pranayama and breath awareness.

Breath is not simply air moving in and out of the lungs. It is a complex interaction between the respiratory muscles, the nervous system, blood chemistry and cellular energy production.

When we understand how breathing truly works, we can:

• guide students more safely and effectively

• support nervous system regulation

• improve oxygen delivery and carbon dioxide balance

• recognise dysfunctional breathing patterns

• and use pranayama as a powerful tool for health and resilience.

This workshop bridges modern respiratory science and traditional pranayama practices, giving you knowledge and confidence to integrate breathwork into your classes with clarity and precision.
