How to price your yoga classes
(without undervaluing yourself)

A practical and reflective guide for yoga teachers

You’ve completed your yoga teacher training. You’ve started teaching, or you’re about to. And then you need to work out:

“How much should I charge?”

There are two main ways that you can approach the pricing of your yoga classes:

  • Charge in line with those around you

  • Charge what you need to, in order to cover your costs

Most yoga teachers start with the first, but the second is what creates financial sustainability.

Let’s look at both.

Charge in line with those around you

This is often the first place people look: “What are other teachers charging?”, and this can be useful — to a point. If you’re going to do this, do it properly (and efficiently).

Start your research

Create a simple log sheet and look at:

  • Local yoga studios

  • Local independent teachers

  • Gyms and leisure centres

  • Online offerings that would be similar to yours.

TOP TIP: Set a timer. It’s so easy to fall into a comparison spiral here — so give yourself a clear boundary (20–30 minutes is enough).

Log your findings

As you research, note down:

  • Price per class

  • Class length

  • Location (studio vs community space)

  • Experience level of the teacher

  • Type of class (general, specialist, premium offering)

Define your pricing in line with those around you

Once you’ve gathered your research, simply line up the prices from lowest to highest, note down any patterns and then ask yourself “Where do I realistically sit within this?”, then review the prices against where you’ll be teaching, how long your classes are and your depth of knowledge in the field. This can help you define a pricing structure that feels aligned with your local area.

Let’s briefly recap how you’d define your prices, in line with those around you:

  1. Create your log sheet

  2. Set a timer - researching offerings in your field can be quite the rabbit hole. Make sure you set a timer just for as much time as you’d like to spend on this, and be disciplined about stopping when the timer goes off!

  3. Stay focused - the point of this research task is to determine how much other yoga teachers, studios, leisure centres etc charge for yoga classes

An important consideration

But bear in mind: This only tells you what others are charging, and it doesn’t take into account whether it actually works for you. (And, I think, this is where lots of yoga teachers get stuck with the financial side of things.) Which is why it’s important to…

Charge what you need to

This is the key to financial sustainability. At the end of the day, it’s a simple maths equation, if you outgoings are more than your income, it’s a problem. But you only know this if you know your income and outgoings.

Define your income and outgoings

It’s so easy to think: “The hall hire is £15 an hour, so I’ll just cover that.” But your costs are bigger than that.

They often include:

  • Venue hire

  • Travel (fuel, parking, public transport)

  • Insurance

  • CPD and training

  • Equipment

  • Time (planning, travel, admin)

Putting it together to define your sustainable pricing

Your pricing needs to:

  • Cover your costs

  • Reflect your time and energy

  • Support your life — not just your classes

Not just “fit in” with what others are doing.

So, take your market research, and your income and outgoings, and set a pricing matrix for your classes, workshops, courses and private yoga sessions that ensures that you’re earning a sustainable living, that’s in line with those around you (if you want!).

And if you’ve got to this point, with a defined pricing matrix - it’s time to celebrate!

But, if you’ve read and re-read the steps, and your brain is aching thinking, I don’t want to do this! I just want to teach! Then simply book your free mentoring clarity call, and let’s see if I can help you. 💜
