Fascia, emotion
& your yoga teaching
What your body is holding (that your mind can’t always explain…)
If you’ve ever wondered whether emotions affect your fascial matrix, or whether tension in the matrix can affect your emotions, well you’re definitely not on your own!
Sometimes certain shapes, or poses, or moments in a practice can bring something up, or, sometimes, we’ll notice by someone’s face or body language that they’re elated, or upset… but why? How do we know even though they haven’t uttered a word?
This is where fascia, emotion, and awareness meet.
And as yoga teachers, the more we understand this in ourselves, the more skilfully we can hold space for it in others.
A note before you begin
This isn’t about getting it “right”. It’s not about analysing or overthinking or getting concrete answers.
It’s about noticing, exploring and being incredibly open minded.
So, yoga teacher, grab your journal and pen, and maybe a lovely drink of your choice, give yourself a few quiet minutes and let’s go exploring…
Your prompts to keep
If you’d like me to send these prompts to your inbox - so you can revisit them anytime - pop your details below. 👇
I’ll also include a free masterclass to deeply understand the relationship between fascia and the nervous system.
Your fascia, emotions and yoga teaching journal prompts
What emotions am I experiencing in this very moment?
How do I know that I am experiencing these emotions?
What can I do to allow these emotions to flow through me, unimpeded?
Where in my body needs some TLC today, to help process these emotions?
What wisdom, insight and learnings can I take from my emotions today?
How might this awareness change the way I teach?
Take your time
There’s no need to rush through these. You might explore one question today, and another in a few days, or come back to the same questions next week, to see if anything has changed.
And if you haven’t already, you can pop your details into the form above and I’ll send these prompts to you so you can revisit them anytime.
Bringing this into your yoga teaching
The more you understand your own internal landscape, the more confident and grounded you become when your yogis experience theirs.
You might begin to notice:
when something emotional arises in a class, and your reaction to this
how different bodies hold different experiences
when to guide, and when to simply hold space
This is the work beneath the surface of the poses.
If you’re curious about the relationship between fascia, emotion, and energetic anatomy - and how to bring this into your teaching in a clear and practical way - I go much deeper into all of this in my training Myofascial Release, Energetic Anatomy & Yin Yoga Training. In this training, amongst many other things, we connect:
the science of fascia
the felt experience
and your role as a teacher
Keep exploring!
